Trap car
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-007325
A railroad freight car used to consolidate multiple less-than-carload (LCL) shipments from different consignors into a single car for movement to a specific destination. The car is moved to a freight house or industrial siding where these smaller shipments are loaded before being switched into a train for transport. This method avoids the need for each small shipment to be handled individually at the main railyard, and the car is also known as a ferry car.
