Trapdoor

A hinged or sliding panel that covers an opening in a floor, roof, or wall, allowing access or egress. In mining, trapdoors are incorporated into chutes, hoppers, or ore passes to control the flow of material or to provide access for maintenance. They are also found in ventilation shafts or escape routes within underground mines.
