A primitive transport device consisting of two long poles harnessed to an animal, typically a horse or dog, with a platform or netting suspended between them to carry loads. In forestry contexts, a travois could be adapted for moving small logs or equipment over rough terrain. This method predates wheeled vehicles for hauling.
