Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006166
A foot-operated lever or pedal used to power a machine, such as a sewing machine, lathe, or spinning wheel. Pressing the treadle with the foot activates a mechanism, often a flywheel or crank, that drives the machine's moving parts. Early industrial machines relied heavily on treadle power before the advent of electric motors.
