Footwheel

A large wheel, often driven by a foot pedal or treadle, used to provide rotational power to a machine or tool. This mechanism allows an operator to use leg power to drive a spindle or other rotating component. Footwheels were historically common in lathes, grinding wheels, and spinning wheels before the widespread adoption of electric motors.
