Tuck pointing

A finishing technique for brick and stone joints in which the joints are first filled flush with mortar matched to the colour of the masonry, and a thin raised line of lime putty is then pressed along the centre of each joint. The effect is of very thin, crisp joints. In the United States the word is also used loosely for repointing, meaning the raking out and renewal of deteriorated mortar.
