Turret

The raised central section of the roof of a passenger railway car, with its sides pierced by windows or vents to admit light and air. The feature is also known as a clerestory or monitor roof, and it was common on nineteenth and early twentieth century carriages. It stands above the main roof line, which gives the car a stepped profile.
