Water core

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006531

A casting defect characterized by an internal cavity or void caused by the entrapment of steam. This occurs when molten metal comes into contact with excessive moisture in the mold or core materials, rapidly generating steam that cannot escape before the metal solidifies around it. The resulting void has a smooth-walled appearance, distinguishing it from gas porosity caused by dissolved gases.
