Black Lung Benefits Act of 1973

A federal statute that provides financial and medical assistance to coal miners who are totally disabled by pneumoconiosis, a respiratory disease caused by prolonged exposure to coal dust. It also extends benefits to eligible survivors of miners who died from the condition. The Act is administered by the U.S. Department of Labor.
