Charitable immunity

Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-000743

A legal doctrine that historically protected charitable organizations from liability for torts committed by their agents or employees. This immunity was based on the idea that charitable funds should be preserved for their benevolent purposes rather than diverted to pay damages. While largely abolished or significantly limited in many jurisdictions, its remnants can still influence liability assessments for non-profit entities, affecting their insurance needs.
