Communicable disease
Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-000852
An illness caused by an infectious agent or its toxic products that spreads from one person or species to another, directly or indirectly. Commercial liability policies frequently contain exclusions for losses arising from communicable diseases, which became more prevalent after events like the SARS outbreak and the COVID-19 pandemic. These exclusions limit an insurer's liability for claims related to bodily injury or property damage resulting from the transmission of such diseases on an insured's premises.
