Dose-response assessment

The process of characterizing the relationship between the dose of an agent administered or received and the incidence and severity of an effect. This assessment quantifies the health effects of exposure to hazardous substances. It is a key component of human health risk assessment, often resulting in the derivation of reference doses or cancer potency factors.
