Response action

Measures taken to address a release or threatened release of hazardous substances into the environment. These actions aim to protect public health and welfare, and the environment, from contamination. Response actions are mandated by environmental laws such as the Superfund Act (CERCLA) in the United States, and can include emergency removals or long-term remedial cleanups.
