Financial restatement

The revision of previously issued financial statements to correct errors that were material to the financial reporting. This action is taken when a company identifies that its past financial reports contained inaccuracies that could mislead investors or regulators. Restatements can lead to a decline in stock price and trigger shareholder litigation.
