General duty clause

A provision within the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) that requires employers to provide a workplace free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees. This clause applies when no specific OSHA standard addresses a particular hazard. Employers must take feasible steps to abate such hazards, even if no specific regulation exists.
