Sue and labor clause

A provision in marine insurance policies that obligates the insured to take reasonable steps to prevent or minimize further loss or damage to insured property after an insured peril has occurred. The insurer agrees to reimburse the insured for the expenses incurred in taking these protective measures, even if the efforts are unsuccessful. This clause encourages proactive risk mitigation by the insured.
