Inherent defects insurance IDI

A specialized insurance policy that covers the cost of repairing or rectifying defects in a building's design, materials, or workmanship that existed at the time of construction but were not apparent. This coverage protects property owners against latent defects that manifest after completion, often for a period of 10 to 12 years. It is distinct from standard property insurance, which covers sudden and accidental damage.
