Interpolicy stacking
Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-001904
The aggregation of coverage limits from multiple insurance policies to cover a single loss, particularly when the loss exceeds the limits of one policy. This practice allows an insured to combine the limits of several policies, such as multiple auto insurance policies owned by one individual, to increase the total available compensation. Many jurisdictions have specific laws or policy provisions that either permit or prohibit interpolicy stacking.
