Joint underwriting association JUA

A mechanism established by state law to provide insurance coverage for risks that are difficult to insure in the voluntary market, such as medical malpractice or automobile insurance in high-risk areas. All insurers licensed in the state are typically required to participate and share in the profits or losses. JUAs serve as an insurer of last resort.
