Joint and several liability

A legal doctrine where two or more parties are each responsible for the entire amount of a judgment, even if their individual contribution to the harm was less than 100%. The injured party can collect the full amount from any one of the liable parties, who then may seek contribution from the others. This principle is common in tort law.
