The specific calendar date on which an insurance policy or financial instrument concludes its term and its full value or principal becomes payable. For a bond, it is the date when the issuer repays the face value to the bondholder. For an endowment life insurance policy, it is the date when the face amount is paid to the policyholder if the insured is still living.
