Retroactive date

A provision in a claims-made liability policy that specifies the earliest date an event can occur for coverage to apply. Any claim arising from an event that happened before this date is excluded, even if the claim itself is made during the policy period. This date is typically the inception date of the first claims-made policy issued to the insured.
