Claims-made basis

A type of insurance coverage where a policy responds to claims that are first made against the insured and reported to the insurer during the policy period. The actual incident giving rise to the claim may have occurred before the policy's effective date, provided it falls within any retroactive date. This contrasts with an occurrence basis policy.
