Monopolistic state funds

State-operated workers' compensation insurance carriers that are the sole providers of coverage within their respective states. Employers in these states are legally required to purchase their workers' compensation policies directly from the state fund, as private insurers are not permitted to offer this coverage. Currently, Ohio, Washington, Wyoming, and North Dakota operate monopolistic state funds.
