Government-operated entities that provide workers' compensation insurance coverage within a specific state. These funds can be monopolistic, meaning employers in that state must purchase coverage from the state fund, or competitive, operating alongside private insurers. Currently, North Dakota, Ohio, Washington, and Wyoming operate monopolistic state funds.
