New source performance standards (NSPS)

Emission limitations established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for new stationary sources of air pollution or existing sources that undergo major modifications. These standards are designed to control air pollutants and are based on the best demonstrated system of continuous emission reduction, considering costs and other factors. Compliance with NSPS is mandatory under the Clean Air Act for affected industrial facilities.
