Open enrollment period

A specific, limited time frame each year during which individuals can enroll in a new health insurance plan or change their existing coverage without needing a special qualifying life event. This period applies to employer-sponsored group plans and individual plans sold on government-run marketplaces. For plans under the Affordable Care Act in the United States, this period is fixed annually, for example from November 1 to January 15.
