Out of employment

A status describing an individual who is no longer actively working for an employer, either due to termination, resignation, or layoff. In workers' compensation, this status is relevant for determining ongoing benefits for injuries sustained while previously employed. An injury must arise out of and in the course of employment to be compensable under workers' compensation statutes.
