A retirement plan that provides a regular income to employees after they cease working. In a defined benefit plan, the employer guarantees a specific payment amount, calculated based on the employee's salary history and length of service. A defined contribution plan, such as a 401(k), specifies the amount of contributions but does not guarantee a particular payout.
