Preadmission review (PAR)

A process conducted by health insurers or managed care organizations to evaluate the medical necessity of a planned hospital admission or other medical service before it occurs. This review assesses whether the proposed treatment meets established clinical criteria and is the most appropriate level of care. Approval from this review is often required for coverage of the service.
