Utilization review

A process of evaluating the medical necessity, appropriateness, and efficiency of healthcare services provided to an injured worker. This review determines if the treatment plan aligns with established medical guidelines and is reasonably related to the work injury. It can occur prospectively, concurrently, or retrospectively to manage healthcare costs and outcomes.
