Preponderance of evidence

The standard of proof in most civil cases, requiring that the evidence presented by one side is more likely true than not true. This means the party with the burden of proof must convince the fact-finder that their version of events is more probable than the opposing party's. It is a lower standard than "beyond a reasonable doubt" used in criminal cases.
