To remove or obscure confidential, privileged, or personally identifiable information from a document before its release or disclosure. This process is applied to claims files, medical records, and legal correspondence to comply with privacy laws and protect sensitive data from unauthorized access. Common redaction methods include blacking out text with a marker or using specialized software that permanently removes the underlying data.
