Retaliatory law
Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-002927
A state statute that imposes the same or similar burdens, such as taxes, fees, or other requirements, on out-of-state insurers as those states impose on insurers domiciled in the retaliating state. These laws aim to promote fair treatment for domestic insurers operating in other jurisdictions. They are a mechanism for states to protect their own insurance industry from discriminatory practices by other states.
