Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009

Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-002012

A federal statute that amended the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to clarify the statute of limitations for filing pay discrimination claims. It specifies that each discriminatory paycheck or compensation decision restarts the 180-day (or 300-day in some states) period for filing a charge with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). This act made it easier for employees to challenge long-standing pay disparities based on sex, race, national origin, age, religion, or disability.
