Discrimination

The unfair treatment of an individual or group based on characteristics such as race, gender, age, religion, or disability. In insurance, unlawful discrimination occurs when insurers use these characteristics to unfairly deny coverage, charge higher premiums, or offer less favorable terms. Insurance pricing must be based on actuarially sound risk factors, not protected characteristics.
