Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) of 1967

A federal law prohibiting employment discrimination against individuals who are 40 years of age or older. It applies to hiring, firing, promotion, layoff, compensation, benefits, job assignments, and other employment terms and conditions. The ADEA is enforced by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and covers most employers with 20 or more employees.
