Section 702 of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

A provision within Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that exempts religious organizations from the prohibition against discrimination based on religion in employment. This section allows religious employers to prefer employees of a particular religion in their hiring practices. The exemption applies to organizations whose purpose and character are primarily religious.
