Ministerial exception

A legal doctrine that exempts religious organizations from certain employment discrimination laws when hiring or firing employees who perform religious functions. This exception recognizes the right of religious institutions to define and manage their own faith-based missions without government interference. It applies to employees deemed to be ministers, regardless of their formal title.
