Exception (to exclusion)

Term · Insurance and risk management · MLC-T-INS-001364

A specific provision within an insurance policy that restores coverage for a particular peril or circumstance that would otherwise be excluded. For example, a property policy might exclude flood damage, but then include an exception for damage caused by a burst pipe within the dwelling. These exceptions narrow the scope of an exclusion, providing coverage for certain events.
