Split dollar plans

An arrangement, not a type of policy, where an employer and an employee share the costs and benefits of a permanent life insurance policy. The employer typically pays a portion of the premium equal to the annual increase in the policy's cash value, while the employee pays the remainder. Upon the employee's death or termination of the agreement, the employer recovers its contributions from the policy proceeds, with the balance paid to the employee's designated beneficiary.
