Underinsured motorists coverage (UIM)

Protection for an insured driver, passengers, and family members against losses caused by a driver who has insufficient liability insurance to cover the full extent of damages. This coverage pays the difference between the at-fault driver's liability limits and the actual damages, up to the UIM policy limits. It typically applies after the at-fault driver's policy has paid its maximum.
