Occasional driver

A person who drives an insured vehicle infrequently, usually less than a certain percentage of the total mileage or driving time. This individual is listed on the policy but is not the primary operator of the vehicle. Insurers assess the risk associated with occasional drivers differently than primary drivers, which can affect premium calculations.
