Abstract of judgment

A condensed summary of a court's judgment that records the conviction, the sentence, and related orders in a short form that can be sent to the agency carrying it out. In California criminal cases the abstract of judgment is the document delivered to the prison or jail as authority for the sentence. In civil cases the same name is used for a document that creates a lien when it is recorded with a county recorder.
