Amnesty

A government's blanket forgiveness of an offense or status violation for a whole class of people, in immigration law a grant of lawful status to unauthorized immigrants who meet set conditions, as under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Because it applies to a class rather than one person, it differs from an individual pardon, which can be granted before or after conviction.
