Appellee

  1. The party in a legal case against whom an appeal is taken, meaning they won in the lower court and are now defending that victory on appeal. This party is also sometimes referred to as the respondent. The appellee seeks to uphold the decision of the trial court or administrative agency.

  2. The party who opposes an appellant's appeal, and who seeks to persuade the appeals court to affirm the lower court's decision.
