Supersedeas

A writ or order issued by an appellate court that stays or suspends the enforcement of a judgment or order of a lower court pending the outcome of an appeal. It prevents the prevailing party from executing the judgment while the appeal is being heard. A supersedeas bond is often required to protect the appellee against losses incurred during the delay.
