Bail bond

A contractual agreement by a third party, known as a bail bondsman or surety, to guarantee a defendant's appearance in court in exchange for a non-refundable fee. The bondsman posts the full bail amount with the court, securing the defendant's release from custody. If the defendant fails to appear, the bondsman is responsible for paying the full bail amount to the court and may use a bounty hunter to locate the defendant.
