Banking Act of 1933

A United States federal law, also known as the Glass-Steagall Act, enacted to separate commercial banking from investment banking activities. It established the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to insure bank deposits and restore public confidence in the banking system. Key provisions of the act were largely repealed in 1999.
