Burden of production

The obligation of a party in a legal case to present enough evidence on an issue to allow the trier of fact to consider that issue. This burden is met by introducing evidence that, if believed, would support a finding in the party's favor. Failure to meet this burden can result in a directed verdict or dismissal of the claim.
